As Women Collective Kenya, we were honoured to be part of the First Intergalactic Conference on Resistance Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst — a powerful gathering exploring how communities resist, organize, and create pathways toward liberation.
As the session came to a close, our Executive Director, Ruth Mumbi, reflected during the panel on a truth that continues to guide our work:
Resistance has never only been about what we oppose — it has always been about what we are building in its place.
In moments when civic spaces are shrinking and systems of power continue to deepen inequalities, our response must be rooted in creation — creating spaces where communities heal, where survivors reclaim dignity and power, where women lead, and where care becomes a powerful form of resistance.
Movements are sustained not only by the courage to challenge injustice, but by relationships, solidarity, mutual aid, and the collective imagination to build something different.
At Women Collective Kenya, we believe another world is not only possible — it is already being built through the everyday acts of organizing, caring, resisting, and dreaming together.
The future of resistance is being shaped by communities who refuse to give up. ✊🏾🌍
